ConvaTec is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative medical products focused on therapies for the management of chronic conditions. Its four Business Units provide products used for advanced chronic and acute wound care, ostomy care, continence and critical care and infusion care – which is focused on infusion devices for the treatment of diabetes as well as other conditions – such as pain management and Parkinsons Disease.
The Infusion Care Business Unit of ConvaTec is a dynamic and fast paced environment. It is also currently the highest growth business in ConvaTec. Infusion Care Operations manufactures over 100 million infusion sets per year for some of the top medical technology and pharmaceutical businesses in the world – positively impacting the lives of over 1 million people.
Global engineering and automation excellence
As Director of Global Engineering, Infusion Care Operations you will report directly to Vice President of Global Operations and Supply Chain, Infusion Care, and be a key member of the Infusion Care Operations Leadership Team. You will be responsible for developing, deploying, and upgrading the entire automation and manufacturing capacity and processes required to meet the current demands and future growth of Infusion Care’s global customer base and thereby deliver on the Infusion Care’s strategic plan.
In the role, you will lead, support, and develop Infusion Care’s Global Engineering team. This is a high functioning team with robust processes and is made up of 30+ project managers and engineers – with engineering capabilities in manufacturing, automation, process development, process validation, data analytics, and product quality. You will have nine direct reports – seven Project Managers and two people leaders – who run a Technical Team and a Validation and Product Quality Team. The Engineering team is located in Osted, Denmark, which is also the location of one of Infusion Care’s three manufacturing plants – the one that contains their most advanced, high volume manufacturing operations and automation.
You will partner closely on all of this with the production teams at the manufacturing facilities in Osted, Denmark and Reynosa, Mexico. Furthermore, you will also partner with Infusion Care’s Research and Development, Quality and Regulatory groups to design – and ultimately deploy – the manufacturing processes required to develop, launch and scale-up, at very high volume, all new products for Infusion Care. While also ensuring, that these new products are designed for manufacturing and are of the highest quality.
You will own the automation strategy and work closely with automation and equipment suppliers across Europe – focused on building close, long-lasting, and effective relationships. While also partnering with them to stay on the forefront of automation technology.
As this is a global role, you can expect to do some travel – approx. 10% of the time.
Experienced leader within engineering, project management and people development
To have success in this position, it is required that you have 10+ years of experience in manufacturing operations and operations engineering from a regulated industry. Furthermore, it is expected that you have 5+ years of people leadership experience and can work effectively in a team and “matrix” environment – that also spans multiple cultures and geographies. You have a strong competency in complex program management and a thorough understanding of project management tools and methodology. Moreover, you are able to coordinate multiple, complex projects – adapting to changing priorities as needed.
You hold a degree in Engineering or similar, an MBA or Advanced Engineering degree is preferred. You have a track record of execution excellence and people development. It is critical that you have a high degree of mental agility given the fast-paced and high growth environment at ConvaTec.
As a leader you create followership by setting clear direction, inspiring, and developing the organization. You are ambitious and take ownership in everything you do. You possess strong leadership and team management as well as excellent interpersonal skills and have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Additionally, you have competencies in applications such as SAP, MS Office, AutoCAD, and MS Project.
