About the role
As Head of Group HSSE at St1 Group, you will provide strategic directions and has the overall ownership of the company’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) governance and practices across all business units. You will drive the integration of HSSE into St1’s culture and operations, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and the company’s sustainability ambitions. In this new role, you will be leading St1 Group practices to responsible and trustworthy energy transition leader by overseeing cross-functional HSSE network and also having direct supervising responsibility. You report to a member of the St1 management team.
Your primary office location may be in St1’s Helsinki, Stockholm, or Oslo office and occasional travel within the Nordics is required.
What you will do
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive HSSE frameworks, reporting practices, and processes aligned with industry standards and corporate vision, business objectives, and sustainability goals.
- Drive a proactive, risk-based HSSE culture across the organization by fostering capability development through targeted training programs and active leadership engagement.
- Oversee the Group’s crisis management policies and coordinate cross-functional preparedness and training to ensure effective response to major incidents and emergencies.
- Act as a centralized HSSE competence unit, providing expert leadership and support to business units in developing and executing their HSSE plans, ensuring alignment with Group-wide objectives.
- Oversee compliance with national and international HSSE legislation, industry standards and internal policies and drive initiatives to improve people and process safety an enhance environmental performance.
- Monitor and benchmark HSSE performance across all business areas, promoting best practice sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Represent St1 Group in external forums, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and community stakeholder engagements on HSSE matters.
- Communicating transparently about risks, performance, and improvement initiatives to internal and external audiences.
What qualifications we’re looking for
We are seeking an experienced leader with strong expertise in HSSE frameworks and a proven track record in international, multi business and -location operations production environments where HSSE plays a central role. Experience within the energy sector will be considered as advantage.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who can drive continuous improvement and foster a proactive, risk-based HSSE culture across diverse teams and geographies. You should possess deep knowledge of international HSSE regulations, standards, and best practices. Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities are essential, as is the capability to influence and engaging effectively with both internal teams and external partners. Strong analytical and decision-making skills, supported by a data-driven approach to managing risks, monitoring performance, and guiding initiatives, are required. You should also have the courage to challenge existing practices constructively and a commitment to learning and professional growth.
