Automation Engineer
The Automation Engineer is part of a 10-member Automation and Electrical team, with team members located in Finland and Spain. In this role, you will report to the Automation and Electrical Engineering Manager, based in Espoo.
As an Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for automation engineering (software programming) for assigned projects and products. You will have a highly interesting and versatile key role in the engineering and execution of retrofit automation projects. This role will require you to provide support and information to our automation department and participate in system projects as required.
Responsibilities:
- Programming TIA portal and PLC logic components.
- Engineer and execute PLC retrofit installations according to the newest standards
- Commissioning of projects at the shipyards or onboard sailing vessels
- Electrical or mechanical troubleshooting during execution
- Provide automation assistance to other Engineers/service technicians in the field
- Provide extensive service report immediately after completion of tasks
- Travel heavy position with domestic and international travel is required
- Ability to perform work in the field which is regularly onboard vessels while docked or underway. Required to often work nonstandard schedules at field locations. The usual duration is 5-10 days for maintenance work onboard ships in service.
The average number of days spent travelling per year is around 90 – 100 days.
You will collaborate closely with the Automation & Electrical team, as well as with the onboard service team, product development, design, and product management teams.
Keys to success:
- Relevant Bachelor’s or master’s degree in science.
- Experience of commissioning or engineering as Automation Engineer (software programming) in process system, implementing automation solutions and writing operation descriptions and design specifications.
- Good experience of different PLC software program languages (ST, FBD, LD) and knowledge in programming within EPLAN platform. If you have knowledge of other programming languages, those are considered as a plus (C, C++, Java, Python).
- Sound knowledge of PDM systems.
- Good experience of PLC hardware components (Siemens S7-1500, S7-1200, S7-300, LOGO!, Omron, other are plus) and automation system networks and communication protocols.
- Good experience of different HMI engineering (Siemens, Intouch and Omron).
- Knowledge of process automation, equipment and components (e.g. motors, pumps, valves, instruments, blowers, conveyors) and engineering requirements in the marine industry.
- Full proficiency both in spoken and written English.
